Maturity = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P is principal, r is annual rate, n is compounding frequency per year and t is tenure in years.
Is FD interest taxable?
Yes. FD interest is fully taxable as 'Income from Other Sources' under the Income Tax Act, India. Banks deduct TDS if interest exceeds prescribed thresholds.
Is quarterly or yearly compounding better?
Quarterly compounding gives a slightly higher maturity than yearly compounding at the same nominal rate.
